Mountains - for me are a symbol of power. They make me feel so small and humble. Whatever happens in my life, whenever I stare at them - I remind myself that they were here long before and will be long after me. And yet, here they were cut open like a wedding cake. It was the first time I saw a quarry. Famous marble from Carrara. Michelangelo carved out David from this stone. It has been quarried here since Roman times.
I was astonished, how our species managed to enslave such a magnificent power? Eat the mountain? Hiking around there was an extraordinary experience. At some point we discovered an overgrown, but still visible, ancient roman road. For a moment I felt I traveled in time, back to those ancient times. I wondered, how did those mountains look before? A glitch in the matrix.
